Be Friends is a befriending project for children and young people aged 5-18 years old, with a physical and/or learning disability. We are currently recruiting volunteers who are availble to work on the project in Cardiff.

The aim of the project is to enable the children to have fun and access exciting activities in their home or local community. It helps the children to develop personal and educational skills and social relationships. It also provides essential respite for the family members.

Volunteers go in pairs to visit their matched child or young person for 2-3 hours each week, usually at a set time arranged with the family. Enjoy activities such as the cinema, trampolining, bowling or going for food – the only limitations are your imagination! The costs of all activities are covered by SVC. Please contact Rosie the Project Coordinator at r.rudd@svcymru for more information.

This project will give volunteers an insight into supporting someone with a disability, and will help develop skills such as teamwork, initiative, communication, organisation and leadership. As a volunteer you will make a big difference to the child and their family whilst enjoying yourself. All that is needed is commitment and a big sense of fun!

Application process:

  • Complete SVC's volunteer application: https://www.svcymru.org/apply-to-volunteer
  • Complete a short matching form
  • Informal interview (short listed applicants)
  • Complete a DBS
  • Attend project training

This project will be offering 10 40hour placements for Cardiff Met Students.

Students from additional universities, please get in touch with Rosie (R.Rudd@svcymru.org) by 11th November to discuss placement opportunities.
